What are the fundamentals of the Big Data theme?

The challenge of Big Data theme is in general the processing, analysis, prediction and visualization of big volumes of data in real time to support the future decisions. Solution of modelling, analysis and prediction of big power engineering data demands the utilization of modern technologies for distributed and parallel data processing, the choice of suitable representations and models that can be used for streams of incoming data.

The typical tasks in power engineering domain, considering the data character, are:

  • power demand forecasting for distributing companies, balance groups or individuals
  • analysis of relationship between power demand and external factors, e.g., meteorological or demographic data
  • mining of typical motifs and shapes of power consumption curves
  • clustering of consumers based on power consumption characteristics
  • classification of power consumers or anomaly detection
